The road connecting Ratthota, Riverstone, and Laggala has been severely damaged by landslides at several points due to heavy rains, and was reopened only for light vehicles by the morning of the 17th, according to Laggala Coordination Committee Chairman and Member of Parliament Dinesh Hemantha.

He said that immediate repair work was initiated to restore the road to a condition suitable for transportation. At present, it is open only to light vehicles, as several sections remain unstable due to landslide damage.

MP Hemantha said that the risk of further landslides has not yet subsided, making it unsafe for heavy vehicles to travel. However, he expressed confidence that the road will be fully restored in the coming days.

On the instructions of Matale District Chief Government Agent Prasanna Madanayake, the Divisional Secretaries of Raththota and Laggala, officials of the Disaster Management Centre, the Matale District Chief Engineer of the Road Development Authority and his staff, the Laggala Pradeshiya Sabha, the Laggala Police, and other government officials — along with residents of the area — are working together to repair and reopen the road to its original condition.
