NBRO issues landslide early warning for seven districts

The National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) has issued a Level 1 (Yellow) landslide early warning for residents in several areas across seven districts, due to continuous rainfall being experienced in many parts of the island.

According to the NBRO, the districts and areas under observation include:

Galle: Neluwa

Gampaha: Attanagalla

Kandy: Udunuwara, Delthota, Doluwa

Kegalle: Yatiyanthota, Ruwanwella, Rambukkana

Kurunegala: Rideegama, Alawwa

Matale: Rattota, Yatawatta, Ukuwela, Ambanganga Korale, Pallepola

Moneragala: Medagama

Nuwara Eliya: Hanguranketha, Ambagamuwa

Ratnapura: Kalawana

The NBRO has urged residents living in these areas to remain vigilant, stay tuned to weather updates, and follow the guidance of local authorities. People are advised to be alert for early signs of potential landslides such as cracks on the ground, tilting trees or poles, and unusual sounds.

Emergency teams and local authorities have also been placed on standby to respond swiftly to any incidents that may occur.
