Officials from the Ministry of Transport, Highways, Ports, and Civil Aviation have revealed that more than 300,000 driver’s licenses are currently awaiting issuance

They said arrangements have been made to print and distribute the pending licenses within the next three months. In addition, a new driver’s license featuring enhanced security measures is expected to be introduced before the end of this year. Preparations have already been completed to procure one million cards required for the printing process.

These updates were shared during the Ministerial Consultative Committee on Transport, Highways, Ports, and Civil Aviation, held in Parliament on October 9 under the chairmanship of Transport Minister Bimal Rathnayake.

During the session, Minister Rathnayake directed officials to install printing machines in every province to speed up the issuance of driver’s licenses across the country.
