Government took a year to arrest Sewwandi: Namal

The National Organizer of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), MP Namal Rajapaksa, said the government had failed to serve the people as it took nearly a year to arrest Sewwandi, but now that she has been apprehended, it can finally focus on public service

Rajapaksa made these remarks while speaking to the media after meeting the Deputy Chief Judicial Sanghanayake of the Polonnaruwa Thamankaduwa Province, Ven. Kegalle Senananda Thero, on the evening of the 15th.

“It took the government a year to arrest Sewwandi. So where did it have time to serve the people? Now Sewwandi has been arrested, and the government has time to work,” he said.

Commenting on the government’s anti-narcotics campaign, Rajapaksa said the administration does not need the opposition’s help to eradicate the drug underworld, as it already has the intelligence and resources to act on the information it receives.

“If the government does something wrong, we are ready as the opposition to point out those mistakes,” he added.

Speaking on the upcoming provincial council elections, Rajapaksa said the SLPP is prepared for any format or approach the government adopts. “We will decide how to act only after the elections are announced,” he said.
