The discovery was made by a local landowner who noticed suspicious objects while preparing his land for cultivation and immediately alerted the police.
Following the report, officers obtained a court order from the Kilinochchi Magistrate’s Court and sought the assistance of the Special Task Force (STF) Bomb Disposal Unit. The STF team conducted a thorough inspection of the site, safely locating the mortar shells and securing the area to ensure the safety of nearby residents.
Police said further investigations are underway to determine the origin of the munitions and whether they are linked to past conflict activities in the region.
