The Western Province Road Passenger Transport Authority announced that fines will be imposed from today (15) on passengers traveling without valid tickets on buses.

Chairman of the Authority, retired Navy Commander Gamini Jasinghe, stated that this new measure aims to ensure compliance with transport regulations and to minimize financial losses faced by bus service operators due to passengers who fail to purchase tickets.

Special inspection teams have been deployed to monitor both state-owned and private buses, while an awareness program will also be conducted simultaneously to educate passengers and prevent such violations, the Authority further said.
