Former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has denied media reports claiming that a building near the Menik Ganga in Kataragama belongs to him.
In a post on his official Facebook page, Rajapaksa stated that certain media outlets had repeatedly published false news suggesting his ownership of the property.
He explained that the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) had previously investigated the ownership of the said building, during which he gave a statement. According to Rajapaksa, his name was mentioned in connection with the property due to an electricity connection application submitted under the name “G. Rajapaksa,” which did not contain a valid signature.
Clarifying the matter, the former President emphasized that the building near the Menik Ganga does not belong to him and that he has never had any reason or interest in constructing or maintaining a building in the Kataragama area.
