Police recovered a total of 1,163 bullets, including two anti-aircraft rounds, during an operation near the Moragahakanda Reservoir.
The recovered ammunition included 895 bullets for T-56 firearms, 116 bullets for 71 mm firearms, 10 bullets for 41 mm firearms, two bullets for 78 mm firearms, four bullets for 84.5 mm firearms, and 134 GMPG bullets.
Police said investigators are probing whether someone deliberately hid the ammunition at the site.
They said that special operations will continue today near the Moragahakanda Reservoir viewing center.
