Workers’ remittances rise to US$ 695.7 million in September

Foreign workers remitted a total of US$ 695.7 million to Sri Lanka in September 2025, according to the latest report issued by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL).

This marks an increase of US$ 140.1 million compared to September 2024, when the country received US$ 555.6 million in foreign remittances.

The report further noted that from January 1 to September 30, 2025, Sri Lanka received US$ 5,811.7 million in workers’ remittances — an increase of US$ 967.9 million from US$ 4,843.8 million recorded during the same period last year.

Meanwhile, the CBSL stated that tourism revenue for September 2025 amounted to US$ 182.9 million. The cumulative tourism earnings from January to September also stood at US$ 182.9 million, according to the report.
