Sri Lankans working overseas have sent home USD 695.7 million in September this year, marking a 25.2% increase compared to the same month in 2024, according to the latest data released by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL).

The report further indicates that during the first nine months of 2025, total remittances amounted to USD 5.81 billion, reflecting a 20% growth compared to the USD 4.84 billion recorded in the corresponding period of last year.

In September 2024, Sri Lankans abroad had remitted USD 555.6 million to the country.

The Central Bank also noted that 2024 recorded the highest annual remittance inflow since 2018, with USD 6.57 billion, representing a 10.1% year-on-year increase.

Given the current upward trend, Sri Lanka is expected to surpass last year’s remittance total by the end of 2025.
