The opening ceremony was held in line with the 151st World Post Day celebrations.
These new facilities are part of the Department of Posts’ income-generating projects aimed at strengthening its financial performance. The primary objective of the initiative is to increase the department’s revenue through innovative and tourism-related services.
During the event, Minister Jayatissa unveiled the name board of the Tourist Rest House, switched on the electric illumination system, and participated in the ceremonial sale of commemorative stamps to three foreign tourists and several local customers. He also oversaw the first room reservation at the new rest house.
Postmaster General Ruwan Sathkumara and other officials of the Postal Department were also present at the occasion.
