The tour, starting on 11 November, will feature a three-match ODI series followed by a T20 tri-series involving Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Sri Lanka. Chief selector Upul Tharanga confirmed the inclusion of both players, noting that they have been training consistently at the High-Performance Centre.
“Both Rajapaksa and de Silva are in good form. The squad of 22 is being prepared for the World Cup, from which the final team will be selected,” Tharanga said.
Rajapaksa, known for his aggressive middle-order batting, and de Silva, who offers technical stability and off-spin options, were integral members of Sri Lanka’s 2022 Asia Cup-winning side. Their inclusion adds experience and balance to the squad after recent struggles in consistency.
Selectors plan to utilize de Silva as an all-rounder in subcontinental conditions. His T20 record — batting average of 21.17 and bowling average of 20.43 — underscores his value in high-pressure World Cup matches.
Emerging players Eshan Malinga, Vishen Halambage, and Dushan Hemantha have also been included, alongside the core group from the recent Asia Cup. The final touring squad will be announced later this month following training and fitness assessments.
