Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa said several Members of Parliament who entered Parliament under the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) will resigned from their seats in preparation to contest the upcoming Provincial Council elections.

He made this remarks yesterday (11) at the inauguration ceremony of the D.S. Senanayake Faculty of Political Science and Sustainable Development, held at the SJB head office under his patronage.

Premadasa said the MPs were stepping down from their parliamentary positions to contest the Provincial Council polls with the goal of forming an SJB-led government.

“These are rare sacrifices made while being in the opposition,” the Opposition Leader said, emphasizing the dedication of party members toward strengthening the SJB’s political movement.

“What is the purpose of making such sacrifices? To win the Provincial Council and to win for the party,” he added. “It is very rare that such great sacrifices are made while in the opposition — and these sacrifices are being made under the leadership of the President of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya, to form an SJB government,"he said.
