Police said the latest investigation will focus on allegations that the lawyer, accompanied by another senior attorney, verbally abused and obstructed the police officer while he was performing his official duties.
The inquiry comes after the same officer was arrested following a complaint that he had assaulted the lawyer when the latter was attempting to drive his vehicle out of the court premises. The officer was produced before court and remanded until October 13.
According to police, video footage of the altercation has been obtained and will form part of the ongoing investigation. Statements from several witnesses present at the scene have also been recorded.
Further inquiries are being conducted under the supervision of the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) for the Mount Lavinia Division.
