The ‘All-Island School Games 2025’ officially begin today (October 10) at the Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium in Diyagama, marking the start of a five-day national sporting celebration that will continue until October 14.

The opening ceremony will be held under the patronage of Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya.

This year’s event, organized for the 38th time, will feature 31 team competitions along with track and field athletics events, showcasing the talents of young athletes from across the country.

Following the completion of inter-house competitions at schools, students who excelled at zonal, divisional, and provincial levels have qualified to participate in this national event.

Around 15,000 students from schools across Sri Lanka are expected to take part in the team events, while nearly 15,000 athletes will compete in the athletics segment.

A total of 1,170 schools will be represented in this year’s Games. Winning athletes and teams will be awarded trophies, medals, and certificates in recognition of their achievements.

The All-Island School Games continue to serve as a vital platform for nurturing young sporting talent and promoting sportsmanship among the nation’s youth.
