Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government Minister Dr. Chandana Abayaratne says that steps are being taken to provide benefits to retired public servants who did not receive salary increases in the 2025 budget.

He made these remarks while addressing the National Retirement Day 2025 celebration organized by the Department of Pensions under the theme “A Healthy, Happy and Energetic Life.”

The minister said there are over 700,000 retirees in the country and acknowledged that many of them continue to face various challenges.

“We meet regularly with retiree organizations, the Deputy Minister, Secretary, and Director General to discuss and identify their issues. There may still be problems we haven’t fully recognized, but the government is committed to fulfilling its responsibility to resolve them,” he stated.

The event featured a variety of programs, including local and Western medical camps, health awareness lectures, cultural performances by renowned artists, and the distribution of special gifts to retirees.
