A notary arrested by the Kollupitiya Police for allegedly preparing deeds to sell the same house in a Kollupitiya apartment complex to three different individuals on separate occasions has been remanded until October 15 by Fort Magistrate Isuru Netthikumara.
The Magistrate also rejected the bail application submitted on behalf of the suspect, who is a resident of Wellawatte.
Police investigations revealed that the notary had assisted in the fraudulent sale of a housing unit at a apartment complex in Colombo 04. The Kollupitiya Police informed the court that the suspect had received Rs. 103 million from the victims under the pretext of providing housing units, without cancelling prior agreements.
The prosecution further argued that releasing the suspect on bail could result in witness intimidation, noting that as a professional notary, he had exploited the trust placed in him by the victims.
After considering the evidence and submissions, the Magistrate ordered that the suspect be remanded in custody until October 15.
