The Cabinet of Ministers has granted approval to a proposal presented by President Ranil Wickremesinghe to enable the temporary appointment of officers to the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC).

This decision aims to ensure the Commission’s continued efficiency and operational stability, following the enhanced independence provided under the Anti-Corruption Act No. 9 of 2023.

Accordingly, the Commission will be permitted to temporarily recruit qualified officers and employees from the state service, Police service, Audit service, provincial government service, and state corporations, in accordance with the provisions of the new Act.

Officials said the move is expected to strengthen the Commission’s capacity to carry out investigations and uphold the country’s anti-corruption framework effectively.
