Former Sri Lanka and Ceylonese Rugby & Football Club (CR & FC) captain Pavithra Fernando has been elected as the new President of Sri Lanka Rugby (SLR).

The election took place during the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Sri Lanka Rugby held earlier today at the Duncan White Auditorium of the Sports Ministry complex.

Fernando, who has a long and respected history in Sri Lankan rugby, was chosen to lead the sport’s governing body as it looks toward a new chapter of development and progress. His experience as both a player and leader is expected to bring renewed vision and stability to the administration of the game.

During the AGM, several other key appointments were also made for the 2025/2026 term. Shanitha Fernando was elected as Deputy President, Chinthaka Perera as Vice President, Subash Jayatilaka as General Secretary, and Neomal Ekanayake as Treasurer. In addition, Thilini Rangani was appointed as the Female Representative, while Stephan Gregory will serve as the Athlete Representative.
