The Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) has seen a notable increase in passenger traffic since the start of the year. According to official statistics, 6,630,728 passengers passed through the airport during the first eight months of 2025, compared to 5,837,351 passengers in the same period in 2024, reflecting a 13.59% rise.
August recorded the highest passenger volume in the first eight months, with 922,993 travelers.
Airport authorities say the increase signals a steady recovery in air travel demand and expect passenger numbers to continue rising in the coming months.
