A tense situation unfolded at Kollupitiya railway station today after the Galle-bound night mail train from Colombo broke down between Kollupitiya and Bambalapitiya, causing delays to other trains on the coastal line.
Passengers, frustrated by the disruption, began displaying aggressive behavior. In response, the train’s engine driver and assistant reportedly locked themselves inside the engine room for safety.
Railway authorities are currently working to resolve the situation and restore normal services along the coastal line.
