Police said that investigations are underway to arrest a three-wheeler driver and another suspect who allegedly assaulted and robbed an officer of the Department of Archaeology, attached to the Mines and Excavations Division.

According to the complaint, the suspects had threatened the officer and robbed gold jewellery worth over Rs. 1.3 million, two mobile phones, and Rs. 20,000 in cash.

Police revealed that the victim, a resident of Kaduruwela, had arrived in Colombo by bus around 6.00 a.m. on Sunday (6) and hired a three-wheeler near Pettah to travel to the Narahenpita area.

However, the three-wheeler driver had reportedly stopped the vehicle on Sangaraja Mawatha, Maradana, where another person joined him. The two suspects then assaulted and threatened the officer before robbing him of his valuables and fleeing the scene.

Kochchikade Police stated that multiple teams are conducting investigations to arrest the suspects.
