Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) National Organizer and Member of Parliament Namal Rajapaksa has accused the government of attempting to fabricate false evidence to imprison the Rajapaksa family.
Speaking at a public meeting held in Bopitiya, Pelmadulla, Rajapaksa said the government is attempting to “shut mouths, show prisons, and destroy lives” as it struggles to function effectively.
“Even if they try to fabricate false evidence and put us in prison, it will not succeed,” Rajapaksa asserted. “We know we have not done anything wrong in accordance with our conscience. Therefore, we challenge the government to conduct impartial investigations and stop unnecessary finger-pointing.”
He further criticized the government for what he described as secretive dealings with foreign countries, alleging that “fraudulent agreements” had been signed that the public is not allowed to see.
“Why are you doing politics behind closed doors? Don’t sign agreements with thieves and close the shop,” he said.
Rajapaksa also accused the government of tarnishing the reputation of officials by politicizing institutions and acting on “dreams” about him and his father.
“The most common dream is of me and my father. That’s the question — why me?” he added
