The Wellampitiya Police have launched a manhunt for a man suspected of setting his wife on fire and fleeing with their four-year-old child in the Lisanpola area of Wellampitiya.
The victim, identified as 29-year-old Thushari, was allegedly attacked by her husband, who is believed to be addicted to the drug “ice.” The shocking incident occurred when the suspect reportedly climbed onto the roof of their house, removed the roofing sheets, entered the home, poured petrol on his wife’s head, and set her ablaze.
According to police, the suspect later fled with the child, leaving the child stranded on the roof.
Investigations have revealed that the couple had been frequently arguing and that the suspect had often threatened to kill his wife. She had lodged several complaints with the police and had also filed for divorce due to his violent behavior and drug addiction.
Police further disclosed that the suspect had regularly demanded money from his wife to buy drugs and had disconnected the water supply to the house before committing the murder.
As of last evening (06), the suspect had not been arrested, and the Wellampitiya Police are continuing further investigations.
