Buddhist monk student dies after falling from University building

A third-year student monk of the Buddhist and Pali University of Sri Lanka has passed away after sustaining critical injuries in a fall inside the university premises.

The deceased has been identified as 24-year-old Venerable Dehiattakandiye Sumangala Thero, who was residing at a temple in the Veyangoda area, Gampaha.

 When the monk had fallen from the second floor of the monks’ hostel at the university. Fellow students had transported him to the Colombo National Hospital using a three-wheeler hired from outside the campus.

It has been reported that the university administration had not been officially informed about the incident at the time.

Due to severe spinal injuries, the monk underwent surgery and was receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Colombo National Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries last Friday (October 3).

Homagama Police have launched further investigations into the incident.
