Adverse weather conditions affecting the Badulla District have triggered a landslide near the 13th kilometre post on the Passara–Lunugala Road.

According to reports, rocks and debris have fallen onto the roadway, obstructing traffic. Due to the ongoing risk of further landslides, the Road Development Authority (RDA) has kept only one lane open for vehicular movement.

Officials said the recent heavy rainfall reactivated an old landslide site in the area. The District Disaster Management Unit noted that despite the inclement weather, efforts are underway to clear the debris and fully restore the road.

Meanwhile, in the areas of Passara, Kanewarella, and Batahera Helapola, another landslide has become active. As a precautionary measure, three families have been evacuated and relocated to safer locations under the direction of the Passara Divisional Secretary.
