The new High Commissioner of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka to the Maldives, Mohamed Rizvi Hassen, presented his Letters of Credence to the President, Dr Mohamed Muizzu, at a ceremony held at the President’s Office.

The High Commissioner was escorted from Republic Square to the President’s Office in a traditional cultural procession, Haiykolhu, accompanied by the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Drum and Trumpet Band.

The President accepted the Letters of Credence and formally welcomed Mohamed Rizvi Hassen as the High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to the Maldives.

Following the ceremony, the President and the High Commissioner discussed areas of mutual interest, including trade, the economy, and climate change. They underlined the importance of strengthening people-to-people connections and discussed ways to broaden cooperation, with the aim of further enhancing the close bilateral relations between the two nations.

Diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Sri Lanka were established on 26 July 1965.
