Addressing the media, Sirisena pointed out that the price of Nadu rice has dropped from Rs. 270 per kilo to Rs. 170 per kilo, while Keeri Samba rice remains unavailable at Rs. 260 per kilo. He said this indicates that the shortage is caused by production issues rather than distribution.
"Farmers have focused more on cultivating Nadu rice and less on Keeri Samba. Due to the shortage, they are unwilling to sell Keeri Samba at lower prices. We must operate within the law and face several challenges. If the government provides appropriate solutions, many of these issues can be resolved," he said.
