The match, scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m., faced multiple delays as heavy showers continued throughout the afternoon. Despite efforts by ground staff, the umpires and match referee decided to call off the game at around 5:30 p.m. after conditions failed to improve.
This was Sri Lanka’s second group-stage fixture of the tournament. The home side had earlier suffered defeat against India Women in their opening match. Australia, on the other hand, came into the game with strong momentum following an emphatic 89-run win over New Zealand Women in their first encounter.
Both teams were awarded one point each following the washout.
The next match for Sri Lanka Women is scheduled later this week, as they continue their campaign to secure a place in the knockout stage.
