A hotel allegedly built illegally by former North Central Province Governor Mahipala Herath within the Anuradhapura-Peramiyankulam Tank Reserve has been demolished.
Central Nuwaragam Province Divisional Secretary Sudarshana Dissanayake said he was instructed to remove the structure within a month.
It is alleged that the former Governor had misused his authority to construct the hotel under his wife’s name. On September 18, the Divisional Secretary issued her a letter directing the demolition.
He further warned that if the building was not removed within the stipulated time, the Department of Agrarian Services would be instructed to carry out the demolition.
