The Department of Meteorology has announced that atmospheric conditions are becoming favorable for evening thundershowers in most parts of Sri Lanka today (03).

Showers or thundershowers are expected to occur at several places in most provinces after 1 p.m. Fairly heavy rainfall, exceeding 50 mm, is likely in certain areas of the Northern, North Central, and Eastern provinces.

The public has been urged to take necessary precautions to minimize potential damages caused by localized strong winds and lightning that may accompany thundershowers.

Sea Areas Forecast (Next 24 Hours)

Showers or thundershowers are expected in the sea areas off the coast extending from Mannar to Mullaittivu via Kankasanturai. A few showers may also occur in sea areas extending from Mannar to Galle via Colombo.

Winds will be south-westerly with speeds between 30–40 kmph. Sea conditions around the island will remain slight to moderate. However, the Met Department has cautioned that temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas may occur during thundershowers.
