Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananda Wijepala said today that the Assets Investigation Division has commenced investigations into the assets of thirty politicians, including several former Members of Parliament and former ministers.

The Minister stated that the investigations are being carried out by the Assets Investigation Division of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), following a series of complaints received from the public.

According to Minister Wijepala, the complaints alleged that certain individuals had illegally acquired assets during their tenure in public office. He further confirmed that the division is currently conducting detailed inquiries to verify the legitimacy of the assets in question.

The Minister emphasized that legal action will be taken where evidence of illegal acquisition of property is established, underscoring the government’s commitment to ensuring accountability and transparency.
