The regulation was issued by Transport, Highways, Ports and Civil Aviation Minister Bimal Ratnayake.
According to the gazette, the driver’s seat belt in every vehicle must be a standardized belt with three fastening points—one running upwards across the body and another laterally across the body.
For other seats, including the front passenger seat, seat belts must be standardized with at least two fastening points, consisting of a lateral belt across the body, depending on the seat design.
