The Department of Meteorology announced that mainly fair weather will prevail in the sea areas surrounding the island during the next 24 hours, effective from 5.30 a.m. today (October 2).

According to the forecast, winds will be south-westerly with speeds between 30–40 kmph. However, wind speeds could increase up to 50–55 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota, and from Puttalam to Kankasanthurai via Mannar.

The forecast further notes that winds may also strengthen up to 50 kmph at times in the sea areas extending from Kankasanthurai to Trincomalee.

As a result, the sea areas off Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota and from Puttalam to Kankasanthurai via Mannar are expected to be rough at times, while the seas off Kankasanthurai to Trincomalee may be fairly rough.
