The Sri Lankan Embassy in Kuwait has urged all Sri Lankan nationals to strictly refrain from violating immigration and labor laws in the State of Kuwait, stressing that respect for the law is essential to avoid unnecessary hardships and conflicts

In a statement, the Embassy and the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment noted a recent incident on September 25, when a group of Sri Lankan women housed at a government shelter managed by the Kuwait Manpower Authority engaged in a protest that was later circulated on social media.

The Embassy promptly investigated the matter and confirmed that claims made by the women—that they were being forced to return to Sri Lanka—were false. According to officials, the individuals had originally arrived in Kuwait legally for employment but had later left their workplaces without authorization, thereby violating immigration regulations. For their protection, they were subsequently referred to the appropriate detention center.

The Embassy further revealed that some groups had misled the women, encouraging them to stage the protest, record videos, and circulate them online as a means to expedite their repatriation. It warned that those who follow such unlawful advice risk facing serious legal consequences under Kuwaiti law, including extended legal procedures before being allowed to return to Sri Lanka.

The statement emphasized that departure permits are issued only after official investigations in line with Kuwaiti regulations, and that demonstrations or protests will not hasten repatriation but could instead complicate legal proceedings.

The Embassy reiterated its request for all Sri Lankans in Kuwait to act responsibly, comply with local laws, and seek assistance exclusively through lawful and recognized channels.
