The Colombo Fraud Investigation Division informed Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama today that an investigation has been initiated against a doctor of the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS) for allegedly sending a staff certification letter to the Ministry of Health using a forged signature and official seal of the Assistant Registrar.
According to court proceedings, the investigation followed a complaint by Mrs. Shamika Nilanthi Jayasinghe, Assistant Registrar of PGIMS. The acting director of the institute had issued a staff certification letter valid for six months to the suspect doctor, which was certified as a true copy by the complainant.
However, discrepancies were noted: the effective date on the letter submitted to the Ministry was July 1, 2022, while PGIMS records showed March 16, 2022. The suspect doctor allegedly sent the letter to the Ministry using the forged signature and seal of the Assistant Registrar.
Chief Magistrate Bodaragama ordered a full investigation into the matter and requested periodic progress reports to the court.
