The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has urged the public to report restaurants selling food and beverages above the stated prices at stops where long-distance buses halt for tea. Complaints can be submitted through the CAA’s “1977” SMS service

The notice comes after a complaint about overpriced items, including water bottles, at a restaurant in the Bendaluwa-Parakaduwa area.

Following an inspection, officers from the Ratnapura District branch of the CAA produced the restaurant owner before the Ratnapura Magistrate’s Court, which imposed a fine of Rs. 100,000.
