Smartphones are becoming an everyday part of children’s lives, offering everything from educational apps to video calls. While these devices provide unique learning and communication opportunities, experts caution that children may be absorbing more radiation than adults.

Smartphones are becoming an everyday part of children’s lives, offering everything from educational apps to video calls. While these devices provide unique learning and communication opportunities, experts caution that children may be absorbing more radiation than adults.

Research from Indian scientists suggests that because children’s skulls are still developing and contain higher water content with lower bone density, mobile phone radiation can penetrate their brains more deeply. Studies also indicate that children who start using phones at a young age may be exposed to longer-term radiation compared to adults who begin using them later in life.

However, major health agencies, including the World Health Organization (WHO), the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), state that there is currently no scientific evidence linking mobile phone radiation to cancer or other serious health issues. The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) classifies RF radiation as Category 2B, meaning it is “possibly carcinogenic to humans,” but there is no conclusive proof.

Experts recommend several precautionary measures for parents to reduce children’s exposure:

Use speakerphone or wired headphones instead of holding the phone to the ear.

Encourage texting or video calls rather than traditional calls.

Ensure phone use in areas with strong network signals.

Enable Airplane Mode for games, videos, or other non-communication activities.

Limit overall screen time and avoid taking phones into bedrooms.

Following these simple precautions allows children to benefit from mobile technology while minimizing potential risks associated with RF radiation exposure.
