In line with the government’s digitalization program, the Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government has launched a new website to streamline human resource management in the public service.
The initiative, introduced under the instructions of Minister Dr. A.H.M.H. Abayaratne and the guidance of Ministry Secretary S. Alokabandara, is being implemented through the Public Service Reform and Planning Division. The website, accessible via www.govhr.gov.lk, is expected to modernize the management of public sector employees.
In the first phase, information on officers belonging to six island-wide services and three integrated services will be entered into the system. By December this year, the Ministry aims to establish a comprehensive digital database covering the entire public service, said Shantha Weerasinghe, Additional Secretary of the division. Currently, around 70% of the officers in the nine selected services have already registered.
Commenting on the initiative, Ministry Secretary Alokabandara noted that while internet facilities were being partially used for annual transfers, the process was not systematic. He emphasized that the new platform would allow the Ministry to manage human resources more effectively.
“The efficient operation of this website will enable the Public Administration Ministry to manage the human resources of the public service in a more systematic and efficient manner,” he said. Work on the system has been underway for nearly one and a half years.
Once fully operational, the website will facilitate activities related to recruitment, promotions, and transfers of public servants, providing a more efficient, transparent, and user-friendly public service.
