A police constable attached to the Udappuwa Police was arrested by the Western North Crime Division today (30) in possession of 400 grams of heroin.
Police said another suspect from Peliyagoda, who was with the constable at the time of the arrest, was also taken into custody in the Eldeniya area of Kadawatha with 110 grams of heroin in his possession.
Investigations have revealed that the arrested constable had previously served for nearly five years in the Colombo Crime Division before being transferred to Udappuwa Police earlier this year.
According to police, the seized narcotics are linked to a drug trafficker identified as Russell Smith, who is currently evading authorities while hiding in Dubai.
The two suspects are expected to be produced before the relevant magistrate’s court, while further investigations are underway.
