In a stirring start to the ICC Women’s World Cup, Sri Lanka’s national anthem, “Sri Lanka Matha”, was delivered with heartfelt pride by renowned vocalist Nuwandhika Senarathne. Her soulful performance drew widespread praise and left both spectators and commentators visibly moved at Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati.

The anthem, sung ahead of the highly anticipated opening clash between India and Sri Lanka, set a dignified and emotional tone for the tournament’s curtain-raiser. Many in the audience described the moment as “powerful” and “deeply touching,” with social media also flooding with admiration for Senarathne’s rendition.

The opening ceremony further paid tribute to the cultural richness of Assam, featuring special performances honouring the late Assamese music legend, Zubeen Garg, whose legacy continues to inspire generations of artists.

The combination of national pride, music, and cultural homage created an atmosphere of unity and celebration, marking an unforgettable start to the Women’s World Cup.
