Sri Lanka Police has confirmed that Anura Vidanagamage, alias “Kajja”, who was shot dead along with his two children in Middeniya earlier this year, had been in the vehicle that followed slain rugby player Wasim Thajudeen’s car moments before the latter was murdered.
Acting Police Spokesman ASP Minura Senarath, speaking at a press briefing in Colombo today (30), said the revelation was made following the interrogation of underworld figure “Backhoe Saman”, recently arrested in Indonesia, as well as a statement given by Kajja’s widow.
On February 18, “Kajja” was gunned down by an unidentified assailant while travelling with his two children. Both children, who were critically injured in the attack, later succumbed to their injuries.
Police believe “Backhoe Saman” played a central role in orchestrating Kajja’s assassination. Investigations into his possible links to other high-profile crimes, including Thajudeen’s murder in 2012, are continuing.
