Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama was informed today (29) by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) that 7,760 out of 10,000 gold ornaments, taken into custody by the Army during the North-Eastern Humanitarian Operation and later handed over to the National Gem and Jewellery Authority (NGJA) on court orders, have been transferred to the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.

The court had previously directed the NGJA to weigh the 10,000 gold items and submit a detailed report on their gold content and weight to both the court and the CID.

Accordingly, CID officers informed court that the NGJA had completed the examination of 7,760 items, which have now been handed over to the Central Bank.

The officers made this statement while submitting a further progress report during the hearing of the case today.
