Pivithuru Hela Urumaya leader Udaya Gammanpila filed a complaint with the Bribery Commission today alleging that government MPs are diverting their monthly salaries to party funds for political activities.

Speaking to the media after submitting the complaint, Gammanpila said MPs cannot spend their allowances at their discretion. “The fact that 159 government MPs receive over Rs. 30 million collectively each month and credit it to the party fund for political purposes constitutes a misuse of public funds,” he stated.

Gammanpila further claimed that the funds are being used to pay for party-related expenses, including telephone bills, fuel, and office maintenance, before being deployed for political activities. “This amounts to a misappropriation of more than Rs. 30 million per month by all 159 MPs, plus the President and 160 others,” he added, urging the Bribery Commission to investigate the matter.
