The Department of Meteorology announces that several spells of showers are expected today (29) in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as in Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara Eliya districts.

A few showers may also occur in the North Western province, while showers or thundershowers are likely at a few places in Uva province and Ampara district after 2.00 p.m.

Fairly strong winds, ranging between 35–45 kmph, are expected at times over the western slopes of the central hills and in the Northern, North-Central, North-Western, and Central provinces, along with Trincomalee and Hambantota districts.

Sea Areas Around the Island (Next 24 Hours)

Rainfall: Showers will occur at several places in the sea areas off the coast from Chilaw to Matara via Colombo and Galle.

Winds: Winds will be south-westerly with speeds of 30–40 kmph. Wind speeds may increase up to 50–60 kmph in the sea areas from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota, and from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai via Mannar. In the sea areas from Kankasanthurai to Trincomalee, winds could reach up to 50 kmph.

Sea Condition: The sea areas from Galle to Pottuvil via Matara and Hambantota, and from Chilaw to Trincomalee via Mannar, Kankasanthurai, and Mullaittivu, will be rough at times. The sea areas from Kankasanthurai to Trincomalee will be fairly rough at times.

The Met Department urges naval and fishing communities to remain vigilant due to these conditions.
