Amal Silva, a former member of the Western Provincial Council, was arrested today (28) by the Walana Anti-Corruption Unit in connection with the registration of luxury vehicles using forged documents.

During the raid, police seized three luxury vehicles worth over Rs. 60 million, including Land Rover and Mitsubishi jeeps. Investigations revealed that the vehicles had been illegally imported and registered with the Department of Motor Traffic using forged papers.

According to police, the racket involved using registration numbers of decommissioned vehicles belonging to state institutions.

The suspect is scheduled to be produced before the Panadura Magistrate’s Court tomorrow (29).
