Another monk receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Kurunegala Base Hospital has died following the collapse of a cable truck at the Na Uyana Aranya Senasana in Melsiripura.
The incident, which had already claimed several lives, has now pushed the death toll higher. Hospital officials confirmed that the monk passed away yesterday despite intensive treatment.
Meanwhile, the last rites of five of the seven monks killed in the tragedy were performed yesterday at the Melsiripura–Pansiyagama Public Cemetery.
At the request of the court, the monks’ bodies were laid to rest, with special arrangements made for the burials.
