This is not just a win for New Vithanakande, but a global spotlight on the unmatched quality, heritage, and craftsmanship of Ceylon Tea,” said Pubudu Gunasekera, Chief Operating Officer of the New Vithanakande Tea Factory.
“A heartfelt congratulations to everyone behind this incredible achievement a moment of pride for Sri Lanka, and a reminder that our local excellence can reach world-class recognition,” he added.
In 2023, the factory had already set record prices for its OP1 grade tea at the Colombo Tea Auction, in collaboration with TEAPOND, a prominent Japanese tea retailer. Over the years, New Vithanakande has consistently secured top prices at both local and international auctions, reinforcing its reputation as a global leader in premium tea production.
The New Vithanakande Tea Factory, owned and managed by the M.G. Group of Companies, is helmed by Chairman Y. C. Weerasena and Director Jayanga Weerasena.
This milestone is seen not only as a triumph for New Vithanakande but also as a celebration of Sri Lanka’s tea heritage, positioning Ceylon Tea at the pinnacle of the global premium tea market.
