The Colombo High Court today (26) directed its Registrar to take immediate steps to summon the original case report filed by the Attorney General against former Minister Namal Rajapaksa in the Krish deal case, which is currently pending before the Fort Magistrate’s Court.
The case was taken up before Colombo High Court Judge Nadee Aparna Murfurdurugoda. MP Namal Rajapaksa appeared in court.
President’s Counsel Sampath Mendis, representing Rajapaksa, told the court that some key documents requested by the defense had not yet been provided by the prosecution, stressing their importance for ensuring a fair trial.
Responding, Deputy Solicitor General Wasantha Perera, appearing for the complainant, stated that most of the documents had already been supplied to the defense, while the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) would inquire about the remaining material and provide whatever could be produced promptly.
The judge instructed that all documents requested by the defense must be handed over without delay before the next hearing date and fixed the case for a pre-trial conference on December 18.
In addition, the judge noted that the original case file from the Fort Magistrate’s Court had not yet been produced before the High Court and ordered the Registrar to take steps to summon it immediately.
The Attorney General has filed the case accusing Namal Rajapaksa of committing an offense under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act by allegedly receiving Rs. 70 million from the Indian company Krish under the guise of promoting rugby in Sri Lanka.
