SriLankan Airlines has unveiled a new five-year strategic plan aimed at driving sustainable growth and strengthening its position as the nation’s flag carrier. The plan focuses on balancing commercial ambitions with operational excellence, stakeholder engagement, and environmental stewardship.
Under its current leadership, the airline has delivered notable progress over the past year, with achievements in fleet optimisation, revenue growth, customer experience, sustainability, and debt restructuring.
This year, SriLankan improved its on-time performance to 74%, up from 69% in 2024, despite global engine shortages. Enhanced fleet management, supported by advanced software and new in-house facilities for calibration, testing, and inspections, has enabled quicker maintenance turnarounds and greater operational autonomy. Two previously grounded aircraft have returned to service, while another will rejoin the fleet next year. In June, the airline also inducted its first wide-body addition in seven years – a leased Airbus A330-200 – supporting expanded operations.
The carrier has also restructured its network with demand-based scheduling and enhanced digital sales. Since July, it has doubled daily frequencies to Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, and Bangkok, while adding more flights to Dubai. Adjusted schedules to key Indian cities, including Bangalore, Kochi, and Hyderabad, have further boosted demand. These efforts resulted in a 10% increase in passenger revenue, 22% higher passenger numbers, and 10% capacity growth during the first five months of the 2025/26 financial year.
On the customer front, SriLankan has introduced wireless inflight entertainment, AI-powered chatbot “Yaana,” and smart airport self-service solutions, contributing to a rise in passenger satisfaction.
Sustainability also remains central to the airline’s strategy. Measures include optimised fuel use via digital monitoring, reduced paper through office automation, energy-saving practices, and real-time waste monitoring at SriLankan Catering.
Looking ahead, the airline will continue to strengthen financial stability through debt restructuring, further fleet expansion, and integration of advanced technologies. SriLankan Airlines says its comprehensive strategy will position it to deliver seamless passenger experiences while advancing global sustainability standards.
